Easy Taco Salad Flag

Ingredients

1 pound ground beef  (or vegetarian crumble)

3/4 cup water

1/4 cup salsa

1 envelope taco seasoning  (or 2 TBSP of my DIY Taco Seasoning)

4-6 cups tortilla chips

4  cups shredded lettuce

1/2 cup  pitted large olives, sliced lengthwise

2 cups  shredded cheddar cheese

2-3 cups cherry tomatoes

Directions

1. In a large skillet, cook beef over a medium heat until meat is no longer pink. Drain off any extra grease. Next,  stir in the water, salsa  and taco seasoning. Bring to a simmer and cook uncovered for about 10 minutes, or until most of the liquid is absorbed.

2. Place chips in a 13-in. x 9-in. dish.  Next spread beef evenly over the top of chips.

3. Cover beef  with a layer of lettuce.

4. Arrange olive slices together in the upper left corner to form stars. For the  stripes, alternate tomatoes and cheese.  I added a couple extra chips to the side of the dish for some extra crunch.

NOTE: If you are making this several hours in advance, I would skip placing the chips at the bottom of the taco salad and just serve them on the side.

Optional: I also like to drizzle a little bit of Italian dressing over the individual serving

Servings: 10 -12 servings

No Bake Berry Shortcake Trifle

Total Time:

30 mins

This easy No Bake Berry Shortcake Trifle is the perfect summer dessert! King's Hawaiian rolls, fresh whipped cream, and gorgeous berries...and a little amaretto.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream — cold

  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract — optional

  • 1 12 ounce package King’s Hawaiian Original Hawaiian Sweet Rolls

  • 1-2 ounces Amaretto — optional (may substitute orange or another fruit juice)

  • 1 1/2 - 2 pounds fresh strawberries — hulled and sliced in half

  • 3/4 pound fresh blueberries

Instructions

  1. Beat heavy whipping cream on high speed, adding powdered sugar and both extracts during whipping, until stiff peaks form. Whipped cream turns out perfect when you start with COLD heavy whipping cream and a cold bowl too. (I pop my bowl into the freezer for a few minutes before starting.)

  2. Slice each King’s Hawaiian roll into 8 pieces. Place half of the bread pieces into the bottom of a medium-sized trifle dish. Brush with amaretto (or juice), if using. Spread 1/4 of the whipped cream over the bread pieces, then top with about 3/4 of the strawberries. Repeat the layers, adding blueberries instead of strawberries. Top with the rest of the whipped cream and more berries for garnish.

  3. Chill for 1 hour before serving. This tastes good after the flavors have been allowed to sit for a bit, but serve it on the same day it was made for best results.
